Waterproof jacket – breathable (Gore-Tex or
equivalent) with a hood

Waterproof trousers – lightweight, packable

Walking trousers – quick-drying, flexible

Walking socks – at least two pairs (plus a
spare)

Walking boots – waterproof, well broken-in with
good ankle support

Hat and gloves – warm and/or waterproof,
depending on season

Sun hat / cap and sunglasses – essential in
summer

Daypack (25–35L) – comfortable fit with waist and chest straps

Hydration system – 2–3L water bladder or bottles

Map and compass – and know how to use them

Fully charged phone – with OS Maps app or route downloaded offline

Headtorch – with spare batteries

Trekking poles – optional but helpful on ascents/descents

Watch or GPS tracker – to monitor pace (optional)
Food and drink

High-energy snacks – flapjacks, nuts, dried fruit, chocolate, energy gels

Lunch items – sandwiches, wraps, or other easily eaten food

Electrolyte tablets – to replace salts and minerals

Water – at least 2 litres (refill options are limited on route)
