About the race

Push your limits across the legendary Yorkshire Three Peaks. Race across the peaks is an exciting new endurance challenge where every stride counts – not just toward the finish line, but toward funding the next generation of scientific explorers. Join individuals and teams taking on this iconic route to support the Scientific Exploration Society (SES) in its mission to champion discovery, conservation, and adventure worldwide.

About the Scientific Exploration Society

Since its founding in 1969 by Colonel John Blashford-Snell CBE, SES has championed global scientific and environmental exploration and community aid.

The Society supports discovery and conservation through three key pillars:

  • Funding expeditions worldwide – SES provides grants for research and conservation projects that protect endangered species, preserve indigenous knowledge, and conserve fragile ecosystems.
  • Creating opportunities for young explorers – Through the SES Raleigh Explorer Award in collaboration with Raleigh International, young people aged 18–25 from disadvantaged backgrounds receive fully funded expedition opportunities in extraordinary locations including Costa Rica, South Africa, and Borneo.
  • Inspiring the next generation – Our monthly Explorer Series brings inspirational speakers to share their expedition adventures, raising awareness of critical environmental and scientific challenges.

With the support of our Royal Patron, HRH Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, SES is in an exciting chapter – deepening our commitment to discovery, sustainability, and education.

Race across the peaks challenge

The race covers 24.6 miles with over 5,200 feet of ascent, summiting Pen-y-Ghent, Ingleborough, and Whernside. It's a true test of endurance, determination, and teamwork – not for the faint-hearted, but the rewards are immense.
